At the beginning of 2009 I asked myself the question, “Could I reduce my marketing budget by using real estate social media?”

I’d heard real estate social media experts tell me how social media marketing can help you make money but I wondered if the flip side of the coin was that it could help you save money.

The short answer is absolutely “yes”. 

Let’s use a direct mail campaign as an example.

In a typical direct mail campaign, like a postcard shot to 500 members of a farming area, the average cost per mail piece will run about $1 per piece. 

That’s a hard cost of $500 per mail shot. 

Now let’s say you like to touch your farm area four times a year. That’s $500 multiplied by four equaling a massive $2,000. 

Compare that to the cost of sending 500 emails to homeowners in the same farm area. What’s the cost? Probably nothing! No stamps, no printing, no color copies and no hassle. Just the cost of building the email list, which is something you can do by investing a little time and no money.

That’s one of the hidden benefits of real estate social media marketing.
